Jennifer Van Allen, EdD, is an Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies at Lehman College, City University. She has over 15 years of experience in education, ranging from elementary school teacher to district literacy coach to professor of literacy courses in higher education. These experiences helped her understand the importance of supporting future and current teachers in using literacy as a tool for social equity. From her perspective, too often marginalized youth do not have access to quality learning materials and authentic learning experiences that capitalize on 21st century tools and skills. Her current research interests include digital literacy skills, technology integration efforts, and Open Educational Resources. She aims to turn research into practice by helping educators of all levels visualize research findings in their own classrooms and learning contexts, whether that be face-to-face, hybrid, or online.
