Dr. Zoi A. Traga Philippakos is Assistant Professor at University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She conducts research in K to 12 classrooms and collaborates with teachers and schools to codesign and later investigate the effectiveness of instructional approaches. Her research interests include reading and writing instruction, interdisciplinary literacy, strategy instruction with self-regulation, motivation, and approaches to professional development for classroom teachers. She received the Inaugural Alumni Award from the University of Delaware in 2017, the Early Career Achievement award from the Literacy Research Association (LRA) and the Helen B. Watson Outstanding Faculty research award from the University of Tennessee in 2020. She has co-authored five books on writing and reading instruction as well as over 25 chapters and research articles. Her recent publications include Developing strategic young writers through genre-instruction: Resources for grades K-2 that follows the Developing strategic writers through genre-instruction: Resources for grades 3-5 work. She chaired the Writing Task Force for the International Literacy Association (ILA) and coauthored the Research Advisory: Teaching writing to improve reading published by ILA.
